Grayson lake 5/7/17

Went to Grayson lake again yesterday. Tried trolling for the first 3 hours. Tried jigs and cranks only caught 1 fish. Which was pretty frustrating since we were seeing huge schools every couple hundred yards. Tried lots of different colors, cranks, jigs, different speeds. Caught 1 hybrid on a crank and 1 crappie on jigs. Most fish came from casting jigs. Did pretty well. Caught a lot of bluegill and bass. Also tried jugs for the first time. Had no luck. Definently need to do more research on that before trying again. All in all pretty good day.

Grayson can be tough fishing sometimes. I was talking with the biologist the other day and he was telling me Grayson had some great results from their testing. Not a lot of big fish, but good numbers of decent fish. They are scared to death someone is going to transport vegetation in from Greenbo or some other lake. His words "if that happens, you will be able walk across the vegetation".

That seems to be my experience. A lot of fish, but not a lot of big fish.

Hey, Jman ... just a heads up :

If you ever give Cave Run a try trolling cranks ... beware of the Muskie :yikes as they LOVE crankbaits :biggrin (and jerkbaits & spinnerbaits) Especially those with bright Chartreuse colors !!

I've only caught one from Green River Lake (legal size Tiger Muskie that's now on my wall) ... but, have caught several at Cave Run (only one legal one, but at least a half dozen sub-legals on jerkbaits (chartreuse back/silver sides) when fishing for Bass. I've "heard" they kinda take a liking to chartreuse spinnerbaits, too, especially when they're hiding in the cedars up in the river portion of the lake.

My "legal" Muskies were caught when the size limit was 30" ... but, it's now 36" so if you decide to keep one, be sure and measure accurately !! (and also be aware that they have a Y bone that needs to be cut out)

Thanks for the heads up. I plan on trying cave run this year. It's not that much farther than the other 3 lakes I fish. Looking forward to it! Just not sure where to start with the lake being sooo much bigger than what I'm used to
