KY Lake 10th-13th
I'm headed to KY Lake at Malcolm Creek for our annual gill run. Typically the crappie our off the beds and back out deeper this time of year when we go. I haven't fished KY Lake for crappie for 3 years. Thoughts on next Wednesday thru Friday? Anyone think they will still be shallow or are they moving out already.
Gonna hit the gills hard but love them crappie if their biting.

KY and Barkley Lakes will both be well over summer pool by next week. The river flooding has caused them to cut discharge at the dams to almost nothing. I've not seen any projected crests for the lake. Some are theorizing they may get to 365 or more. That will scatter the redears and gills all over the place. Crappie should not be as affected IMO.
We've been catching good numbers of crappie for over a month pulling crankbaits in medium to deep areas.

High water will scatter the crappie more than you might think. It just depends on the water clarity as to what direction they head. I have had some excellent high water outings when others couldn't catch a thing.
We shall see......

I stayed at Malcolm Creek a week ago today and we caught about 20 blue gills at one spot in the Bear Creek area. Seemed like they were just starting to move shallow. Caught mostly males. Mixed sizes. At that time they were dropping the lake hard and I think it messed things up some. With all this cold weather and talk of water going way over summer pool I would imagine it could be challenging. Just my humble thoughts. The water was 70 in the morning and warming to 75 by evening at that time. Think it's cooled off since then.
