Pin Oak Lake (Natchez Trace)

Looking for any good info on this lake for crappie. Fished it for the first time last weekend with zero fish. I just got a new side imaging finder, and spent a good bit of my time searching for any submerged brush in the 12-15ft range, but was unsuccessful at locating any substantial brush either. I found some isolated logs and very small cover, but nothing that looked like it was holding fish. Any help with where to focus my search would be appreciated because I am planning on trying it again this weekend.

I'm not sure but I think it's pretty clean due to they used to allow skiing on it.

I guess that is the case. I just expected to see more brush close to the channel drop offs. I just nderstand keeping the channels clean for skiers, just expected a little more.

Did they stop allowing skiers? We used to go around this time every year for my wife's birthday (May 1rst) and rent one of the nice big cabins on Pin Oak, but once our oldest daughter started grade school we had to stop since she is still in school at the beginning of May. There would always be at least a couple skiers and jet skis even this early in the year.

It was nice having our own dock where we could just walk out and jump in the boat first thing in the morning, even though the fishing was never very good, the crappie were usually in their post spawn funk already and we would catch mostly bream and bass.

I think the state record black crappie was caught in one of the smaller lakes in Natchez Trace state park.

That's right, Browns Creek. From what I've heard though, Browns Creek is mostly smaller fish.

Browns is just over 100 acres I think

There was a guy who used to post here who fished Pin Oak quite a bit, don't remember his screen name but I think it had the name Dickey as part of it. If he is still around he might be able to give the OP some info.
