Day tripping thru the Ozarks

I'm putting this in both the Arkansas and Missouri boards as I can't remember where it was. Back when Springfield had the only BPS we went up from east-central MS and somewhere along the way we went thru a small town with a lot of what I would call Ozark shops selling native stuff and one of the shops sold homemade dulcimers. I loved it up there and want to go back, my son-in-law can play anything with a string plus a lot of other stuff too, by ear. Can anyone tell me where I was or any other places to visit up that way. Now have a BPS 90 miles from here, thanks.

More than likely, you went through eureka springs or Hardy. My mom lives in Hardy, and they have a lot of ozark crafts shops there, but they also have them in eureka springs.

Sounds like Mountain View - maybe. Do you remember if they had several different Bluegrass and Folk Music bands playing in the town square in the evenings?

Had to get back home so we didn't get to stay into the evening. I seem to remember on the left side of the street looking south or east the sidewalk was a good bit higher than the street. I also seem to remember a bit of water or a creek on that same side if I'm not getting a couple of places mixed up. It's rough getting old and forgetful but it's sure better than not getting old.

Like Jerry said maybe Mountain Veiw, or maybe Yellville. We were floating the Buffalo river a couple of year ago and went to Yellville at the Front porch restruant and there was a little old lady there playing a dulcimer. I bought one from her that here husband made. I can't even play a radio very well, don't know why I bought it.

It does sound like Hardy, at the Spring River. Just a few miles up the road and you cross into MO at Thayer. Sound familiar?

That does sound like the place as we went thru Jonesboro. Ate some good BBQ in Jonesboro, can't remember the name of the place tho.

From your description...I'm pretty sure that it's Hardy, AR. The creek is the Spring River. The highway is lined with business and cars parked parallel. Yeah, you should see some of those big RVs and motorhomes that try to get down through there...it sure is a tight fit. It gets a lot of visitors in the summer. I think they also have some sort of antique car museum there as well.

They have built a by-pass thru Hardy, if you don't want to bring tour motorhome thru the tight streets.
