Humminbird GPS question
This is a Humminbird 899 ci HD SI unit. When going over a school of fish in say 30 foot water and the fish were right under the transducer it will split the fish picture to both sides of the screen so where should I place my cursor to mark a waypoint. Will either side do or would I need to place the cursor in the center to get the best waypoint. Will the waypoint change from one side of this 30 foot span that is in the middle of a humminbird side imaging sonar.

I place mine in the middle since you split the school, turn around and find them on 2D. Public GPS is not perfect but gets you in the ball park.

Excellent question. I too have the 899 HD SI unit. I place my x on the cover/structure they are relating too. The school moves, however what they are relating to will generally stay in place and will be easier to locate next time out. While the school maybe gone the next time, if you don't find the cover/structure then you are left wondering why you marked the spot?
I have several spots in the middle of nothing, one of these days I will delete them.
I made an observation over the winter while reviewing my waypoints, sonar recordings. Sometimes you mark a school that is traveling from one location to another and there is nothing around to hold them in place. This year I will try to find the two points of cover/structure that they are traveling between and mark both ends as well as the line between. Should help me understand migration patterns on that lake.

So if I put my cursor on any of the 3 x points I should pretty well get the same GPS coordinates as this should all be a straight down depth picture or will the 2 outside x's be different GPS coordinate from the middle one.

should be, at most they won't be more than a couple of feet apart because of GPS error
