A friend of mine said he hooks his 36 volt trolling motor in series with three batteries. But he also hooks his 12 volt cranking battery(runs all his electronics, pumps, etc) parallel to one of the three trolling batteries. Is there any advantage to doing this or disadvantage? I have never thought of doing this or have never heard of anyone trying this. What ya'll think?
I can think of several disadvantages . If the paralled battery battery is low on amps it will affect the entire circuitry of boat. Usually in a multi battery system you want the individual batteries to be of identical nomenclature. A weak or lower capacity battery may be adding to load of circuit. Interference may raise its ugly head if electronics circuitry shares common power connections.
After investing in thousands in boat , electronics etc etc etc. Why take a chance on self inflicted troubles to save a hundred or two of a purchase of a 4th battery ?
thanks he already has 4 batteries. didn't seem like a good idea to me neither. He said it came from the factory that way. been usaing it that way for 3 yrs and no prblem then evertyhing quite the other day Everthing!Quote:

Rangers have a jump start system where pushing a button puts a TM battery in parallel with the cranking battery, but I can't see any reason to leave them in parallel all the time. Plenty of reasons not too.
I'd ask the dealer. They rigged the batteries, not the manufacturer.
