Visiting NC
I'm going to be visiting with my family in Pender Co. starting next week. I'd really like to fish with a fellow member while I'm there. NE Cape Fear near Castle Hayne is the only place I ever fished for crappie & that was during a visit 2 years ago. I'd be happy too fish there again or anywhere else for that matter. I remember Greenfield lake in Wilmington is loaded with cypress like Conway here in Arkansas. I'm going to have to give it a go at least one day.
I grew up in Pender but moved away and lived other places as Uncle Sam saw fit. I ended up in Arkansas but I know the waters around Pender fairly well. We always fished for bass bream or catfish. Crappie was never a target.
Anyway if you don't mind a 51 year old tag along I'd appreciate it. I'm bringing my tackle, poles & life jacket. If you are ever visiting central Arkansas I can return the favor.

Conway is an awesome lake for slab crappies, wished our local lakes were half as good. Have fun safe trip.

I caught two well over 2 pounds yesterday at Conway. It was a tough bite with muddy water & high winds but I managed a few. Cooking them for lunch right now.

I know you folks don't know me but I'm still surprised at the lack of invitations to fish. It's ok though, it's your right to say no, but I find it hard to believe things have changed to this degree since I left home in 1985. I really wasn't expecting a ton of invites but I thought someone out there might invite me to tag along. Some of my best friends have been those that I had first invited to go fishing as a stranger. As a matter of fact when I leave NC I'm heading to VA to visit & fish with a guy that I met here in Arkansas. He was new to Arkansas & requested someone to go fishing with on a bass fishing site. I didn't know him but that didn't stop me from inviting him to go fishing. The end result was a life long friend.
I know times have changed. Caution around strangers is needed. It might also be a fear that I might steal your fishing spots. It could be something else. Whatever the reason may be it's ok. I hope you all catch plenty of fish & no hard feelings.

You know, I am kinda surprised too. I guess everybody is too busy fishing or working. I am laid up right now with a bad arm and not doing any fishing. I hope everything works out for you though. I have usually found this site to have very friendly and helpful people. Can't explain it, good luck.

I think most of the fishermen are more in the Jordan Lake area in the middle of the state or to the west in the High Rock-Norman area. Haven't seen many on here from the Southeastern part of the state.

I'm in Pender here at Dad's house now. I brought an older lowrance that came off my bass boat after replacing them. I put it on Dad's trolling motor. Looking at a dept finder while fishing will be a first for him. He has never had one at the bow.
I put the charger on one of his batts & it was about dead. I hope to get his boat ready so we can go on the NE Cape Fear in the morning. Now if I can just remember the tide stuff.

Long line some 1/16 ounce curly tail jigs in yellow, chartruse/white/, yellow/white and you should be good to go. There are few of us here that crappie fish here at the coast. I am going out of town on vacation or I would have taken you fishing. Going to hit Badin and High Rock and visit family.
