Santee Cooper State Park
My son and I are coming down from NC for a few days and staying at the state park. We haven't fished Marion before and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or suggestions? I read that it is very stumpy? We plan on fishing for crappie/shell crackers and maybe do some cat fishing. We planned on staying at short stay on Moultrie but they were booked. Any info about the lake would be appreciated.

The State Park is good location. Straight across from it is Jack's Creek and Parsenti Island. Jack's Creek is stumpy, but excellent crappie fishing. All around Parsenti Island would be good to try for shell crackers and off the upper end of the island we have caught some nice catfish in 4 to 8 FOW using fresh cut herring on the bottom.

Thanks, hopefully we will have some luck but if not it will be nice just to spend sometime on the water.

If you are eating out, Stumphole Landing, just up the lake maybe a mile or less has surprisingly good food. Be sure to try "Mom's Pies" if they have any left. You can run up by boat or car is the weather looks threatening. They are closed on Mondays.
