Kaw 2017
With the fishing schedule getting tight with warmer weather and guide trips booked most weekends, I managed to take my son out for a day of catfishing. Caught some big bluecats fishing drop offs in 10 to 20 fow. This 40 pounder was his best fish to date on rod/reel.

That sure is a nice looking catfish TimY.
I was waiting for a KAW 2017 thread to open. I plan to be there chasing catfish the weekend after next (31st to the 2nd) with a couple buddies. Camping out at Sarge Creek Campground.
My first and only trip to Kaw (end of last fall), on my first throw, i threw my cast net out in the water without it attached to my wrist and lost it. That pretty much ended the trip. At the dock loading my boat I slipped and fell and pulled a groin muscle. Went home no fish caught. Now Kaw is my first fishing outing of the spring. I have the sarge creek area along the riprap there bookmarked as a good place to catch shad, is that still true right now? Can you also point me in the right direction on where some old fat guys might be able to wrestle a hog on a pole then let it go? We are catch-n-release only.
i am linking my map of places on Kaw that we are going to be looking at: MAP LINK

hopefully I will have some good catfish pics for this thread weekend after next :)
I'm all fired up to start fishing again. I only got my boat last spring and was under the assumption that people didn't boat fish for cats in the winter so I put it in storage. I wont be making that mistake again. Year round fishing for me from here on out.

We had a good fishing trip this weekend also. All of them caught in about 10-20 FOW on the edges of channels and near submerged trees` on Shad heads and shad chunks caught that same day. All the catfish was caught either north of Ferguson Rd Bridge in the stumps/trees or in the southern most cove of Sarge Creek. Shad was mighty hard to find and hard to net. All we could get was about 1-2 shad every 5 or 6 throws of the net. At least they was big shad though.
Biggest Blue was around 25, smallest about 2. 21 total in the boat in 2 days. Lost that many more due to broken lines from all the darn trees. Even had one big ol' boy that broke 40lb mono when we was lifting it up into the boat (got hasty and didn't net it first). Only got one channel cat and it was about 15 pounds. All the others was blues.
