Barnett 3/16
Wrapped up a few honey do's and was in the garage working on the boat when my five year old daughter walked in and said "Daddy, will you spend some time with me?" "Of Course!" I said "what do you have in mind?" She said "Daddy, would you take me fishing"....... DUH!
We loaded up and ran to Tommy's for 75 crappie insurance plans and set off into the afternoon sun. It was already 3 by the time we were idling out of the harbor so I knew we didn't have much time to stick and move very much. We needed a plan. The wind was only about 6mph but I didn't want to burn anymore time than necessary so I decided to stay above the bridge and fish upriver. I simply stuck to the textbook cold front during the spawn play. First steep drop off the spawning flats, slow presentation, and persistence. Fished a mixed spread of plain jigs with nibbles and naked minnows. More fish on jigs, bigger fish on minnows, but the biggest of the day bit a plain jig so go figure.
It seems this weather pushed all the fish out. I caught a mixed bag of males and females, plenty of dinks, but Barnett usually has tremendous spawns. Persistence payed off and we found some big mamas. They seemed to relate more to isolated cover along the ledges. Ended our quick excursion with 12 in the box and plenty of throwbacks. I may have inadvertently spoiled my young'n for crappie fishing. She loved the whole thing except for touching them. We are still working on that one. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f4aa3ab4f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3f9fbf5c1b.jpg
