It was going to be cold and I figured the cold would drive the crappie deep. But, when your 21 year old son home from App on spring breaks foregoes the college spring break scene and wants to go crappie fishing with Dad, nothing could be much better than that. So, we started about 10:30 and it was still pretty dadgum cold. We tried one of our go to spots in about 20-25' of water and didn't catch a fish. We then backed further out towards the mouth of a really big cove, and started catching enough to make it interesting. The fish were in 25-40 fow. We ended up with too many spots, a few perch (any perch is too many) and 7 crappie. The crappie were 9", 9", 11", 12", 12.5", 14.5", and 15". My son caught the 15" and it was a hoss. I'm sure it went close to 2 lbs. We packed it in at 5:30. It was a great day.
