Windy Day On High Rock 3/10
March 10, 2017 let's see...
27year wedding anniversary
gale force winds predicted for most of the day
significant cold front moved through the area early this morning
I have an idea, let's go crappie fishin'
I've never been the smartest feller but I had a chance to go and it beats working. Got a late start and began fishing at 10:55am and got off the water at 2:10pm. Caught somewhere around 80 fish, but some were extremely small. We kept 52 in the 8" to 11.5" range but did manage 5 fish between 12" and 13.5". Had 1 nice white perch. The wind was brutal and kept us from fishing 90% of our spots. We managed to find 3 areas with limited wind and basically used 1/16 jigs and single pole casting around visible wood and rocks on or just out from the bank. Several were caught right on the bank in 1ft or less while most were caught 15ft off the bank in 6 to 8ft water. Fish wanted a slow stop/go retrieve tight to the bottom. Caught fish on pink/white, blue/white, black/chart, orange/chart and even a weird bumblebee color. Fish were divided between me, my fishing partner and a gentleman that can't get out to fish but loves to eat them.
Given the conditions, we were extremely blessed to catch these fish today. Just goes to show, a couple dummies and a desire to fish sometimes produces a good outcome. Only saw one other boat and they were bass fishing.
Looks like old man winter is marching into town for several days. Hope ya'll have a good, safe weekend..
