Ross Barnett Ramp question

If I decided to head south to Barnett this weekend, instead of fighting the masses on Grenada, what ramp would be most accessible? I would be coming from the North on I55. I have a 19.5 foot glass boat, and it is pretty heavy, so concrete only. I have not fished Barnett but one time in my life, and that was probably 30 years ago, so I do not know my way around down there.

Another question..... Would I be wasting my time on Barnett if my stated goal was to avoid the madhouse that Grenada is going to be? Should I hit one of the delta oxbows and just go fishing?

Weekends with bass tournaments can be very aggravating. Especially when the crappie are relating to the river channel. Any of the major Ramps should be fine for any size boat. Browns landing, tommys trading post, Madison landing etc...

BASS TOURNAMENTS!!!! Heck! That didnt even cross my mind. Guess I am sort of spoiled..... Dont usually have to put up with those goobers on Grenada!

:twocentsOI believe it will be a madhouse wherever you go. IMHO, if u fishing Barnett, get here early. Take 16 off I55 thru canton and down 43 to Tommys. Put in, go out to the river, and left under the bridge and look left at the Welfare Hole. Use your lake maps to find the sloughs and start catching. If you have a West or Southwest, or even Northwest wind, come on down I55 to Jackson and fish the Pelahatchie Bar area. If you need directions, call me.

What delta oxbow can you hit that is not covered up? Or any lake for that matter

May make a loop this afternoon and check it out.... Still pretty early for Mathews Break or Mossy but neither would be covered up.

You should put in at Tommy's Trading post or if you want to fish the river and upper oxbows you could put in at Ratliff Ferry. It's gonna be busy with bass and crappie fishermen. Barnett ALWAYS IS. Don't let that discourage you, caught some nice fish on the main lake a couple weeks ago with bass boats whizzing by. The upriver oxbows should have spawning fish starting now.

If you put in at Tommy's there are 3 boat ramps. The first and front most 2 are older and very steep. The one I prefer is in the back corner of the complex. It is less steep and more boater friendly.
