Crappie Fishing Reading List

Being a "newb" crappie angler... well new to boat ownership is a better description... I am having so much fun that I want to learn all I can on the water and off.

I picked up a couple of books last week. The one I am reading now is "Crappie Wisdom, an In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies". While published n 1985, long before we had electronics with the amazing capabilities of today, it is still a very good book.

The other book I picked up is "Master's Secrets of Crappie Fishing" by John E. Phillips. This book is a compilation of distinguished crappie anglers - mostly from the south - telling their strategies for Winter, Pre-Spawn, Spawn, Summer...etc. Very quick read.

Anyone recommend good books on crappie?

Sorry can't help you on the books, I'm self taught.

I can only aspire to have the success you have. I am lucky to get out 3 times a month though.

Books will only help so much, time on the water is the key. Something most guy's don't take advantage of on this site is all the great fisherman that will take you if you ask. We have some guys that are good enough to right a book there self.

Learn a different method and try it till you get it down pat. Then move on, water time will pull it together, I have read the Phillips book, it Is a good read. A lot of good reading is here on Crappie.com!!

I gave up on reading in high school .(lol) other than reading the word everyday .but if I could ever figure out how to use my electronics .i think I could fool a few! Lol

There is no doubt in my mind personal experience on the water or knowledge gained from a seasoned angler is the best way to learn these critters. But I use every resource I have access to. This in-fisherman book is very good! Enjoying it right much.

Amen on the electronics. I find I don't use the full capability. If I did, I would spend more time on the electronics and less time fishing.

Books are a very tool to use. No nothing beats hands on but take what you read and apply it. When you take what youve learned and it works for you, adjust to how you fish. Also check out some youtube videos
