first time out this season

got to taylorsville lake this morning first one there followed closely by a guy in my favorite boat war eagle guess i should have taken that as a bad omen i caught one fish all day,plus my anchor rope broke and i lost it.the guy in the war eagle pulled out of the water right after me said he caught 12 :banghead. my electronics said i was on them or as well as i can tell any way.my favorite spot that i was using last year was a bust, so i tried finding new.i am just drop shoting with minnows, and i tried different depths,i found an old post on here that gave me a map of fish attractors so i will try that next i am very new to crappie fishing anybody have any tips for me

Read back through the Taylorsville fishing reports posted on the KY state forum.

The KDFWR map of fish attractors will only help you if you fish brush put out in the "river end" of the lake, as most of those attractors in the lower/main lake area are stake beds, and many of them are in very shallow water.

In my experiences with Taylorsville Lake ... fallen timber & standing timber are the two most obvious places to find fish. The fish there seem to take a liking to blu/char tubes and pink Roadrunners, most of the time. And if you can find either fallen or standing timber on a bank that stays in the shade most of the day, you'll usually find fish around them (provided you get to them first :yikes ) After the word got out that the Crappie at T-ville had gotten into the 11-14" length range & in good numbers, over the last couple of years, the fishing pressure has doubled during the week & more than tripled on the weekends :Doh:
and I don't expect it to be any different this year.

hey thanks for the heads up and yes i get there usually before anyone else but the ramp does get crowded and i wont even go on weekends it gets ridiculous

Spawning habitat.

i went to academy yesterday and bought some slip bobbers as i have been just usin the drop shot method i also bought pink road runner jig heads i plan to set up 2 drop shot rigs and 2 slip bobber rigs maybe i will have some luck:pray

I'd use those Roadrunner heads with some Panfish Assassins, like Texas Hippie or Pink Ghost, and just cast them along the shoreline cover (at Taylorsville Lake) this coming Spring spawning season (and all the way until late Fall). Using them under a slip float wouldn't get the full advantage of their action/flash.

When you get a hit on a Roadrunner, don't "jerk" the rod back ... just keep reeling and pull the rod back in a sweeping motion. That way, if your "bite" turns out to be a snag ... getting the rod on the same side of the object where your lure is hung, will allow you to easily pull it free. Sweeping the rod, while continuing to reel in, is generally enough to sink the RR hook into the fish. The distance you need to sweep the rod depends on the rod action and length. Rods with a parabolic bend, regardless of length, will have to be swept back farther than rods with fast action tips ... simply because they bend easier, and farther down towards the reel (due to their softer action).

Rods with a parabolic bend will bend like a ( ... whereas fast action rods bend like a J (if you can visualize your rod bending like those characters).

Unfortunately, Blakemore no longer offers a solid pink marabou Roadrunner nonono

Best second choice would be the "Electric Chicken" marabou version, by Blakemore ... or having someone like Skiptomylu custom tie a solid pink one for you (like I've done).
