Chickamauga Lake fishing report: 2/22/17
Yesterday, several of my fishing friends and I went down to Chattanooga Christian School to help the kids with their fishing classes. It was teaching day yesterday and we were glad to help the students learn how to shoot jigs, learn to fly fish, and a couple of classes on general fishing info and water conditions.
Today was first hands on day as several of us guides took 2-3 students each out on a 1/2 day of fishing. Everyone caught fish and it was a great catching day for all. The 2 young ladies that I took out were freshmen and they had never caught a fish in their lives. We managed to change all that. Grin. We did a little bit of several fishing techniques to help them broaden their experience as we fished with jigs under floaters for a while. We long lined for a while. And we shoot jigs for a while. We ended up the last hour with drop shot technique with wax worms with bluegills being the main target. But, the hungry blue catfish got in on the wax worm action. The last hour of our morning, the girls landed 7 blue catfish up to about 6 lbs on 4 lb test crappie line. It was such a joy to see how the girls reacted the the hard pulling catfish. They were overjoyed. I was too.
Tomorrow will be day 2 of the fishing part of the class and each guide will have a different pair of students to take out. We fish from around 8 AM to 12:30 PM and the students go back to school at the end of the day. This is great fun for the guides and I know that the students are having a great time fishing.
