HDS 9 Touch Gen 2 help.
I was crappie fishing Saturday and found brush on my side scan. I marked it with way point and came back over with my down scan. I had to look closely and could barely make out the tree. There was no definition to it. I expected to see the branches clearly and some more defining features. I threw some jigs in and you could tell it was a good brushpile. I even caught a few crappie from it. The brush was in about 10 feet of water.
Is there a setting I can use to make the brush more defined? It's set on auto.
-
CHEcrappie, take your contrast off auto and move it to 60%. When you drive over the pile again increase or decrease your contrast until your picture improves. Here's the rule of thumb with contrast. In shallow water 10ft or less use less contrast. In deeper water use more contrast. Another thing many of us use blue color instead of grey or brown. We can see the fish better. EB

EB.. Thanks!! I'll give that a try. Are you at 455 or 800 mMhz?
-
Che the 455 is for deeper water they say but works pretty good. The 800 is for shallower water they say but works really good for me. Not every unit is the same. My HDS 8 like the 455 Better as far as picture goes and my 12 likes the 800 much better for an awesome picture......play with it and see which one you like the best........Ranger

Ranger. Thanks. The blue helped and the 800 is clearer but just not as clear as some of the screenshots I've seen. The contrast says something like A+1 when I change it. EB said to set to a percentage but no figured that out yet.
-
You have your contrast set to Automatic 1. Use the slider to et it where you want. Deeper water will need to be adjusted but a 64-68 setting is usually good for most. Adjust it where you like it.

I have noticed I get much better returns in clear water. There are times when the visibility is so poor that brush cannot easily be seen. I have the Gen 2 with 10 inch screen. The same finder that has "fuzzy" brush in dirty water does this (SUV with sunroof) in moderately stained water, and this (fish on brush) in clear water.Attachment 259568Attachment 259569

well I guess some of the images have CHIRP that I'm seeing. Does it really make it that much clearer of an image?

I have a gen 1 and this guy had no idea I could check his trotline. LOL EB
