Jig Head Color
Well folks, Since I cannot fish until Saturday (4 days to go :banghead) I decided to post a topic for discussion. Jig head color. Personally I fish the 1/32 oz size under a 1 oz Carolina rig. Most of you know I spider rig mostly so when I bump the trolling motor I believe the jigs will bounce up and down sort of vertical jigging look while the 1 oz weight keeps them down and separated from my other rods. I use unpainted jig heads because I think the fish are looking at the jig itself. What do you guys prefer and why?

unpainted for me, vertical jigging. I make my own 1/32 jigs.

Unpainted here, too. CNBC proved to me that painted isn't necessarily better. I have a big box full of every color and weight known to man....somewhere. I keep a couple hundred plain ball 1/32 heads in the boat, pretty much all I use.

I use wire jigs from Lite Wire Hooker in GA. I have several colors but use mostly blue or pink and sometimes John Deere green. Sometimes I think color makes a difference. This winter in Jordan I caught bigger fish on pink heads, pink body, and chartruce tails. I believe that you have to have confidence in what you use. The lite wire saves me break offs. Curtis does a good job making these jigs and they work for me.

Unpainted will always catch fish. My preference is painted. I try to use the head color to contrast with body color. Just where my confidence is.

I use both painted and unpainted. Never have heard anyone say they have caught less because they were using a painted jighead. I have seen at times that painted heads really help. I prefer pink as well over any other color, epically when the water is cold. I also enjoy using powder paint, good hobby to do when you can't go fishing. Use to mainly use 1/32 oz jigheads but now starting to use them up to 3/32 of an oz with a #8 or #10 size hook. Still get good hookups with lots less hangups, also seldom find the need to ever use minnows anymore as well.

First Roy how is the shoulder healing? I started using 3/32 this year, with 1oz weight on the main line. But it seem that my catch ratio was down. Went back to 1/16, 3/4 oz weight on main line. My jig heads are painted but chrome color. So it is just like a new jig that's just been poured. I am making my own jig heads now also. This hobby has so many different aspects to it. Maybe see you and Gene out this March. I know you miss the fishing with him. #8 hook on a 3/32 that is a small hook. Been using #6, or #4. I have found I like the smaller hooks better.

Shoulder progressing slowly, will know more next week after visit to doctor. I'm using the heavier jigs casting or vertical jigging. Now if I was still tightlining with an inline weight I would almost always use a #8, 10 or even a 12 can hook a fish.
