Down from Chicago area. Fished here many times for bass. Bass were not biting for me today switched to crappie that I have never caught here. Got 6 on a hair jig from Roland's martins. Also picked up a chichild on a trout magnet lure. Was in rim canal jigging reed line.
was using a new rod vegan 12 footer. Don't know if it is for jigging it's very heavy put pulls fish out of cover quick might pick up more on way back home.
We are coming down there April 1st. We stay at Martins but fish the everglades mostly. Been wanting to jig the canal and channels for crappie. Be interested in how you do if you fish there again.
By the way, a B&N Bucks Crappie Jig Pole ( BCJP) in 10' is really light weight and sensitive. Really good for what you are doing.
The ones i caught were in rim canal and some in joes cut. There was a few spots that seemed to hold them only got a few. Water was probably 2ft close to 17 ft. Using pink and white jig. Or minnow under a bobber with no weight. Got some bass too. I let them all go and caught some of same ones the next day there was hook marks in there mouth. I could not find my way to the productive side of the obeservstion island where some other people reported doing good.
