9 slabs and 3 also ran
Windy as all get up but the water was low and clear. Went to first spot and on the way ran into a school of fish on the sonar so turned around and spider rigged through them, didn't get a bite. Finally caught a bass while pitching to the bank. Left there for a less windy spot but detoured for a try in another windy hole. While blown against the bank and fishing out, I hooked a super fish. He fought like heck for about 5 minutes on my jig pole and was finally tiring. I got him to the surface to see a catfish of around 15 pounds or so. He made one more run and was coming in when the line parted. Looks like he took the hook deep and the mono got roughed up on his lips and finally snapped. Wow, that was fun and exciting. We then left that spot to go to a place out of the wind. I dropped in my shiner and wham, sac on. Tried that again and wham, number 2 in the boat. Things slowed down after that but we did mange to get 7 more in the boat and missed a few. All in all, a great day. Lord we are thankful for it. More than enough for us and some to share.
Caught on shiners and tube jigs with shiners. Water has cooled off a lot since last week when it was 72. Now it's 57. Females full of eggs just waiting for the moon to be right in 2 weeks. I hope I'm ready too.

Not bad Gene; looks like the fire is out. Had 2 friends fish the Grove also today and they ended up with 5 slabs from 2 spots. I'm fishing 70 Mile tomorrow with my 85 year old fathernlaw tomorrow. Will check the Groveon the way in if we scratch in 70.

Very nice Gene, I'd call it good after that catch. I have noticed that's what you normally do.

As anyone who knows me knows, that is more than a big day for Linda and I. We only take what we will eat for a couple of days and that's it. We don't do early in the morning, and we don't make it an all day affair. Four hours is plenty enough. So today I considered it a great day. We had fun, caught some fish, met some nice people on the water and shared some of our catch. I would like to go back tomorrow but have a Dr. appointment for my yearly checkup. Maybe we can do it before the next front.
Young, I had thoughts of the 70 Mile but the canals I like to fish are too windy with a south or southwest wind so I stuck to the Grove and she was good to us. I wish you and your FIL a great time and a nice mess of fish. I met others in the Grove that had 30 plus fish for a long day of fishing, so the fire isn't out. Take care out there especially with FIL, I'm younger than he by 10 years but a short day on the water really takes it out of me, so don't push him to hard no mater what he says.
