Nice find. I'd load up the long pieces of that gum in a heartbeat on one of my trailers. Then to my shop and pass through a planer. That hardwood looks just like walnut with an exceptional texture and grain. If you were closer, I'd help for sure - you keep the short, I'd keep the long.

How do you keep all that sunk, concrete?:scratchhead

Split a 55 gallon drum 4 80lb bag for the big stuff, the small stuff I use 5 gallon bucket or split 35 gallon drum. It's a lot of work for sure. This type off structure is forever.

Does the cedar and gum not rot as other types of wood structure? I'm planning to build my own piles and will accept any information given.

I don't know what last longer I just put out what I have access to. I figure the bigger the longer it will last, I have some c trees out near the bank that I can see and the have held up great for bout 7 years now.

As Josh Knows, I am a firm believer in large planks, stumps, Big poles, big tree limbs, other BIG stuff, etc., for BIG Crappie cover. Smaller brush and diameter cover works well for smaller fish, and dense cover is needed for baitfish, fry, and the basic food chain. It is an easy system to follow...you just have to be willing like Josh to put in the time and work!
What Josh has done, is the plan and blueprint that others should follow....I will not argue about which cover is best, because Josh's results speak for themselves....he sure has Done his Lake up right!
