Trailer bunks

Time to rebuild the trailer bunk on my 16' Duracraft . It will be the last time I repair them.
I'm thinking about not using carpet. I may have found a better way. I'm putting slick bottom on the boat while I repair the trailer. I found rubber pads at tractor supply for horses. "see below"
I have new PT 2x4s. I can use my skillsaw to cut the rubber to 4"wide by 4' long. It will take 3 per bunk 12' long. I'll use gorilla construction adhesive and counter sunk hill bolts to fasten the rubber to the bunks. Since this dense is made for outdoor flooring for horses it should be more than tough enough to support the boat.

I bought some rubber mat at Tractor Supply that looked like that but it came on a roll. If it's the same stuff it didn't hold up very well.
Since you don't want to use carpet I suggest you look into using a plastic cover for a 4x4 post. If you rip it lengthwise it will make two caps you can screw to the boards. The boat will slide on these very easily and the covers will protect the boat from the chemicals in the PT wood.
If you use this be sure to leave the winch strap connected until the boat is at the waters edge or you may have it laying on the ramp.

What are these made of?

Just a thought but I would think that rubber would not be a good medium to allow your boat to slide on and off the trailer very nicely/easily.

I would be curious to see if something like Trex composite decking matterial might do a better job? I know it can be purchased in dimensinion shapes just like regular wood. It is weather and water resistant. Just not sure if anyone has used one for a bunk yet.

Hello: Like wicklundhr say's the rubber will not let your boat slide on and off easily. I rebuilt my bunks several years ago with Tie down brand bunk glide ons. Works great for me. Good Luck O - R
