I guess you can't look because I forgot to take a picture but I can tell you about it. I was coming out of Portland today and in the middle of my lane was a big, black duffel bag. I stopped to move it out of the road and saw a couple bundles of marking flags and two cans of marking paint. I followed the debris trail into the ditch and found a bunch of very expensive looking electrical equipment. As I was gathering it up I figured out that it was equipment used for locating/ marking underground utilities. I debated leaving the bag of equipment there, thinking that whoever lost it would come back looking for it but wasn't sure it would get back to it's rightful owner. There were no markings indicating who it belonged to. I put the bag in my truck and called MISS DIG, thinking they would be able to help me. All they could tell me was that there are numerous sub contractors that locate for them and gave me the number of one of them. I called and got a voice mail so I left a message explaining my situation along with a phone number. At this point I wasn't optimistic I could find the owner. The marking flags were for Homeworks Tri County so I called them and again was told that there were multiple companies that marked utilities and they really couldn't help me. Maybe 10 minutes later my phone rings and the woman on the other end says " are you the one who found the duffel bag ". Yes ma'am I am. "Is it big and black". Yes Ma'am it is. " This is so and so from Homeworks , I think it belongs to us. There's an engineer on the way to your house" Well, he showed up and verified it was theirs and that one of their employees forgot to shut the tailgate and had no idea where he lost it. Oh, and it is worth 10 grand. Needless to say, he was very happy to get it back.
