Craig I was thinking you are the biologist for the Grove, am I correct. Myself and a few of the locals have struggled to find any crappie to speak of, kind of like to get your insight into what is going on there. Anything you can tell us will be helpful as we would like to be able to crappie fish the lake again like in the past. Thanx ahead of time.

Below is an excerpt from the 2017 Fishing Outlook for Council Grove Reservoir which summarizes the crappie population for the upcoming fishing season provided by John Reinke KDWPT Milford District Fisheries Biologist.
Crappie- Good Fish sampling efforts during October 2016 produced the most crappie since 2002! Density is 10 fold higher than the 5 year average, and 20 fold higher than 2015. Crappie production did increase dramatically with the high water of 2015 and 2016, which bodes well for the future. 2016 young of the year grew well and should provide a very strong year class. While the numbers of crappie increased greatly in 2016, the fish that are available will be small, with a few over 10”.
Looks like crappie fishing should be great at Council Grove next year!
