I take it you are talking about Hattiesburg, Mississippi. There is a Lake in Laurel,Mississippi that is North of you that I here has some good crappie and bass fishing. A few years ago I worked in Laurel, Ms.and always said I was going to go to Lake Bogue Homa fishing but never did. Lake Bogue Homa is a 882 acre lake located in Jones County, 6 mi. E of Laurel on Hwy 84. For information about Lake Bogue Homa, please call (601) 425-2148

i live just a few miles north west of ya in bassfield. paul b. johnson state park can be awesome. its mainly a ski lake so it gets very little pressure but its mainly a winter time to early spring fishery. boga homa is a pretty good crappie lake very shallow lake though. little black creek water park can be good as well.
[QUOTE=doctor_4ster;3351668]I checked out Paul B Johnson yesterday and saw that they had drained it a good bit. Is it legal to fish it while it's down? Do you fish docks, open water, etc?
yes just be careful launching its a shallow boat ramp, you wont have problem just make sure you trim the motor way up. ive seen some skegs shaved off with people not trimming up high enough. this time of year i have always done well right out in front of the boat ramp and back toward the dam a bit. there is a deep area out there i usually just drift around in there and watch my electronics. i havent been lately or I could be more detailed. in the spring the fish will congregant over by the east end of the dam and in the lillies back in some of the coves.
I've been wanting to get up to bogue homa and check it out. Lake Perry is decent I heard as well!

Im just north of you half way between Laurel and Collins. One spot to look into... Get in the Bowie at Glendale(Petal). Right before it runs out into Leaf River, it runs through an old sand and gravel pit. Several acres of open water that gets extremely deep after the winter rains blow it out. Now this gets fished on the regular by some bank dwellers but if you have a boat it can get as good as this area offers. Leaf River holds a good amount of crappie as well. Its a good run to single pole. Might wanna look into the lake at Prentiss also. I haven't fished these spots in a few years because I spend most of my free time on the rez but these spots have produced for me before. Good luck to ya!
