Maybe....possibly....work?

Never ending boat build, low budget style. Fish a river system, back water.
Depths vary from one bend to another. Like to fish tree tops and know enough in a variety of depths (1-25'). Enough to find a few fish occasionally. Trying to set up s small boat with the conveniences of a big boat. Last step is sonar.
Will be purchasing a DI unit next.
Been playing with ideas while in downtime with a new baby here.
Fish up front ALL THE TIME. Don't want transducer on TM. It's on front port side. Jig right, steer left.
Want the setup small and removeable for froggin crawfishin, hunting etc.
Is this a bad idea? All opinions welcomed and valued.

If you do not need mapping I would look at the Garmin Striker series. They have a lot of great features at a affordable pricing but they only have GPS.

I have fished out of boats like yours my entire life until I bought a 17 foot boat last year and I always had my depth finders removable. I would mount them on a piece of plywood and use battery clips on the power cord and used a suction cup style mount for the transducer up until I found the Sully bracket. I never had any problems and still have a Lowrance that I will someday put a small flat bottom boat for my son to use.

Get a piece of PVC that fits the transducer. Stand it on end between those 2 brackets and put a couple of stainless bolts and nuts on it. Then clamp ducer to it. Should make it real stable. Really like that mount and rod.
