Not Crappie....1/19 Report

Decided to do a little catfishing today so on the water not too long after daylight. It was a cool morning with bibs and jacket on, water temp dead on 55*, and slick water. Baited lines and had a few in the water when this hit....a 13 lber...

Afterwards came a broken line wrapped around some structure and a missed fish (didn't have the circle hook in his mouth). Caught a couple channels, 6# and 8# that made it into the livewell (I do like some catfish from time to time.)

Later on another fish hit and I landed him....a 27 lber...

Another 30 minutes or so another fish hit and ran like a hugh gar. I managed keeping it from tangling other lines and when the fish surfaced I was surprised seeing a large cat in the 30-35 lb range. Short lived....he cam unbuttoned before getting a net under him. :(

Lastly, around 11AM this big boy hit....my new PB...a 40 lber...

Not too bad. Boated 5 fish and had 9 pulldowns. Like mentioned, one broke off and 3 missed the hook. Just wanted to share a little of my dark side with you guys. I do like going after cats every now and again especially when I can catch some like these. Well, now that that's out of my system it's time to spend some time looking for those big hens again. :)

Good good going Butch that's the way to put some fish in the freezer for sure. I also want to do some cat fishing on wateree when I get these health problems under control. Congratulations on the catch and thanks for sharing post and pictures.

Welcome to the board. The hot water discharge for the south Wylie lake is the bridge at the nuclear plant on Big Allison. The other is on the NC side above South Point Landing. I think it's called the Allen plant?:dono Be sure to join in with us when we start fishing for perch and do some nightstalking. Some time in the near future we'll have a gathering.
