North Tampa
Went with my brother to north Tampa Lake Magdalene. Bite wasn't great but we managed 12 nice ones. He kept 5 and I took pics of other 7. Couple of them had large roe. Bite was very subtle spider rigging. You had to watch the rod tip for any movement and set the hook. Was fun anyhow.Attachment 255300Attachment 255299Attachment 255301Attachment 255302 I had to break off a softshell turtle and tied on a white 1/16 oz jig head with no plastic or feathers just jighead and minnow, caught about 5 in a row on that. Life is like a box of chocolates.

Shoulda netted that softshell! Great eats they are.

Mike, he was not hooked in the mouth, so couldn't stretch his neck to grab. Too small anyway. They are good though.
-
Yessir its nice when the neck is stretched and slit em and drop in cooler.

I grab them by the neck and take the hook out of their mouth. This one was foul hooked.

When I was a younger man my father would take my brother and I turtle fishing. The trick to getting them in the boat is grabbing them by the short tail they have, hard shell turtles have a longer tail. They are great eating , cut the heads off bleed them out and cut shell off . Skin the rest of the meat a soak in buttermilk. Simmer on low in cast iron skillet . Meat falls of the bone. Yum yum .
