We caught what I think is a hybrid black/white crappie yesterday at Tville lake. I searched this site and found some info on them. I made sure that we took a pic of it.

Let me know what y'all think. I like learning all I can about little details of crappie fishing.
Are they known to grow any more or less in size than normal blacks or whites?

According to the Southern Regional Aquaculture Center studies, hybridization between the Crappie species occurs naturally in the wild, due in part to several possible environmental factors. A female Black Crappie x male White Crappie hybrid shows higher survival, growth, and reproduction rates than a female White Crappie x male Black Crappie hybrid. But, there's literally no way the average Joe can tell which one occurred & produced their fish.
If after 4 to 5 minutes in grease at 350 degrees it floats and is golden brown, then it must been a crappie! Please add hush puppies and ketchup!

Looks like a hybrid to me. It has 7 spines and some vertical markings.

I think you're right, Rodney .... and I believe we catch a lot more "hybrid" Crappie than we realize ... not really paying attention to the mix of markings.
