Also what colors work best there?
I hope you had a good day. It's hard to say where to fish this year because the NWR still hasn't fully recovered from the high water.
Generally, I've found more, but smaller, fish near Bob's and larger fish in NC. My favorite logs have all washed away, so I am pretty much starting from scratch again myself.
Look for water that is whiskey colored but not coffee or chocolate.
The best color for me is 'minnow.'
Thanks but unfortunately the place was dead today paddled down to the first island and went to the left of it and fished the left bank I used several colors with a 1/8th oz jig both chartreuse jig head and red heads with pink, pink and chartreuse, and white and bison which is gold and black and nothing but flat water and snags on the logs.
What color is minnow and what bait is that I use crappie magnets from Leland lures
I meant 'minnows' literally. When it is slow, as it has been since the high water, I do better with minnows.
If you are in a kayak I would launch in smith creek, just past NWR park. go to the end of the creek and also check out the deep water at the only dock you pass. Try from the end of the creek down river on the NWR. I have not been out this fall so I cannot say what is working. But white or chartrouse with minnow is a good bet.
Thanks for the tips guys hopefully the next time I get to go out I will have better luck. But the weather definitely isn't supposed to cooperate the rest of the month.
I only throw 1/8oz in deep water and with a lot of the NWR being so shallow prefer to throw 1/16oz there. I have had good luck there with Kalin's Money jig, and Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Cajun Cricket.
Awesome tip I am really starting to get into crappie fishing and the crappie magnet has been treating me well but as an angler it pays to try new things.
