Has anyone used this method !!

I was going to powder paint some jigs and had a brain storm!!! I use to heat my jig heads like everyone else with heat gun. I would grab the eye with needle noise pliers heat and dip put on a rack put in toaster oven cook for 10 to 15 min. But this morning i was getting everything ready, heat gun plugged, jigs out was looking for some more jigs i had put up and saw the pancake griddle i set my cups on to keep them warm. I thought why not heat my jigs on the griddle, put about 25 on the grill set it on 250 F. The jigs were hot, started grabbing the eyes with pliers dip and rack. Cut my time in half, anyone tried this way of heating your jigs. The jigs set up enough to grab the eye with the pliers. I grab the eye so i don't have to clean the eye out. They turned out great has anyone tried this method or am just late on hearing about it. Cub48

Sounds like a great brainstorm to me. Anything to speed up the heating sounds good. Going to see if I can find my grill and try it. I also hold by the eye but use a oil lamp for heating but taking 2 to 3 seconds per hear adds up to a lot of time when painting a few hundred.

I used to heat them in a aluminum bread pan in the oven but when you take it out they cool quick and when you start to do 2 or 3 color heads it wouldn't help.

With the grill you would be able to keep the grill on throughout the whole painting time. Don't think you would have a cool down problem by his report but I may be wrong but will know soon :)

Yes u keep the pancake grill on i set mine on about 200- 250 f and if u look on the bottom u can see where the heating coil is and place the head of the jig on the area where the coil is will heat it better and not heat the hook as much. I did twice as many with this process than with the heatgun. I also use the grill to set my measure cups on while i use the injector. also i heat my injector on it saves time because the plastisol don't setup in the injector so u don't have to clean out each time just cycle the injector and blow the wad out of tip and u ready to go again. also they are only about $19.00 to $25.00 Cub48

That sounds interesting. I have always used a small tip blow torch and needle nosed pliers. About 3 seconds in the flame, swish through the fluidizer, hang, and grab the next one. I go through a pile of jigs pretty fast.

But I have never tried the grab the eye of the hook trick to avoid cleaning out later. Great idea! How difficult is it to NOT get paint all over the hook?

I like the unique thinking about using a hot plate. I decided to look around to see if I could find a good cheap one and then had another thought... has anyone tried to heat jig heads using one of the induction cooktops? I don't own one, does anyone else have one to try or already know the answer?

I tried using a hot plate when painting my last batch - worked pretty well.

I also have found the hotplate useful for preheating molds and keeping them hot while I load hooks and inserts.

The pancake grill i use is 16X10" this a guess anyway u can spread out your jigs 50 or more at a time u can pick up your jig by the eye with your needle nose pliers dip and tap put on the rack when the rack is full put in the oven. I grab my hooks by the eye to keep the paint from getting in the eye. Also u can vary the temp depending on power paint some paint needs more some less. Hotplate will work just can't put as many on it also don't have sides. Cub48
