Mercury 25 Four Stroke

The Mercury 25 Four stroke is a small motor that has it all, electric or pull start, tiller handle shifting, idle lock, steering tension bar, auto underwater abject giveaway when you kick it in gear.very quiet, and runs like a scolded dog. I really like this motor now that I have read the owners manual. I put one on my 15 foot War Eagle and have learned if you hit something at full speed in this small of a boat with that much engine it could kill you... so be careful, but I am Loving this Merc 25 with electric start right now with about 10 trips. Seems like a very good engine so far. Cant wait to fire it up on my next trip.

I have a Merc 4 stroke 15 hp on my 14 ft Sea Ark flat bottom and I can pretty much get anywhere on Lake Conway I want to go in 15 minutes or less. Purrs like a kitten and uses gas like a miser :biggrin

Mine is a 2000 model and still runs like new. Love that electric start.

Small piece of advice, I'm a duck hunter so hitting logs and stumps is nothing out of the ordinary. Get you a very sturdy rope, or multiple ropes braided together and run them from handle to handle on your boat around the back of your motor. Not only will it save your tiller handle from slamming into the transom and breaking when the motor kicks up but it could save your life, no fun when that motor breaks from kicking up too high and hard and comes into the boat spinning 5k+ rpms. Happens all too often!

This is how mine is, although I've replaced the coated cable with rope so it has a little "give". Set it so your motor can clear any obstacles but the tiller doesn't hit the transom http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c01f9b5e94.png

This needs to be done on all boats with smaller outboards. Outboards breaking off the motor mounts and landing in the boat running does happen more than you think. I have had one in the boat with me and know several others that have as well. That may be a small piece of advice, but it is a great piece of advice!!!

I'm surprised that's not standard equipment on today's jon boats.

Man RK1 Great Piece of advice, I never heard of this before now and pic showing what your talking about. I am going to do this. This type of info is what C.COM is all about. Anybody else got some cool engine, boat rigging tricks. Would love to hear them.

Hope it saves many people's tiller handles from being broken! Something I forgot...slide a piece of rubber hose over the rope before you tie it on, it will help "grip" the motor when it kicks up so the rope doesn't slide up the motor as much. You'll want to find your right rope length by picking your motor up by hand, you want the rope to catch the motor where the mid section meets the lower unit
