Trolling rod recommendations

Hello,

I just got into crappy fishing last year, so I'm still learning lots. Lately, I've been fishing a local creek and catching crappie on around 8-10 feet of water. I've been using a 1/16 jig and a Bobby Garland shad with lots of success on my 5'4 St. Croix Panfish rod.

I've also had some success trolling up and down the creek with my two rods hanging out the back, but would prefer to get a set of rods dedicated for that use.

I don't have a spider rig setup "yet", and I would like some advise on what a good rod make/ model and size to get for trolling out the rear of the boat. Also, any recommendations on lures to try for targeting fish at those depths.

Any good spinning rig will work. I use different length rods and troll from front & back. My favorite rods are the Cherry woods & bass pro crappie lights, with 6# reg. mono line. I use 2 - 1/16 jigs and let out 40' of line for around 10' in depth. That is based on .8 mph. I prefer Pflueger reels.

What size Pflueger reels are you using?

If I was trolling from the back would stagger my lengths. Spider riggin would have them all same length. I like the Southern the 16'.

I was looking at the Wally Marshall Troll Tech's and the B'n'M Trolling rods.

I also noticed that some people use line counter reels when trolling out the rear of the boat.

Does anyone use something like this Cabelas Depth Finder Combo? I don't mind spending a little extra on a setup that is going to last me a while.

I use B'n'M Pro Staff rods in 8ft and 12 ft lengths off the sides of my boat.
All rods have Daiwa Accudepth 17 Line Counter reels with 15# Samurai Braid
and a 10ft Fluorocarbon leader. A bit pricey, but worth every penny. Off the
back of the boat I use 2 Ugly Sticks at 8'6" with Daiwa Line Counters and the
same line setup.

It all depends on pulling or pushing. Are you just pulling jigs off the back or are you planning on pulling Crankbaits. For spider rigging I use 14 ft southern crappie rods most of the time but also have a set of their 12 ft er's. These are mated with Thumbar bait casters spooled with 12-2 braid. For pulling jigs off the back I use 6.6 bait casting and spinning rods in med light action. For pulling cranks I use med heavy bait cast rods 6 and 7 ft with line counter reels and planner boards. I do not like the line counters for pulling jigs or spider rigging. To bulky and cumbersome. You can figure out what rods and reel combo you want for spider rigging and use those same combos for pulling jigs. Any decent reel will work for both..

I plan on pulling jigs from the rear for now. I went ahead and got a pair of 8FT B'n'M Pro Staff rods. I'm going to pair them with a 2000 sized Shimano IX series reel (rear drag)
