Fishing Report, 22 November 2016, Guntersville
As I got up this morning, I checked the "Solunar" app on my phone to see what kind of day it was going to be. The app said it was going to be a "one fish" day - it couldn't be further from the truth. We did very well today.
We fished South Sauty, under the bridge, all day - from 730am to 400pm, didn't move. And we wore them out, kept 53 fish 10 inches and larger. Anything less, we put it back and we threw back probably 20-25 fish. Hot ticket was a 1/8 oz red head jig with Bobby Garland "Mayfly" color. We would have limited out but I couldn't keep the drum off my rod. I caught about 15 drum along with a few yellow stripe. My bud hooked up a 15 pound cat, got it to the boat and it broke off - we would have cut it loose anyway.
Our technique was kinda different. This morning the current was coming in from the river side. We cast into the current and just let the jigs drift till they were almost tight lined below the boat. The majority of the strikes came when the jig quit drifting and just hung there. We also vertical jigged a bit when it got back to the boat as well as up against the bridge pilings. In the afternoon, TVA was drawing water and the current was moving out but we didn't get a chance to use this technique because the bite was over around 330pm.
Great day - I don't get too many of them so I really enjoyed this one - makes up for the trip to Weiss last week that didn't turn out too good. I'll post some pictures up tomorrow of the catch.
