New Cases of CWD found in Arkansas counties .

I know this is a fishing site but lots of us hunt . Just read where the testing sites for first weekend of Deer season set up in CWD Management Zone counties results coming in . This is something us Deer hunters feared would happen sooner or later . So much about the disease still unknown .

The AGFC conducted voluntary sampling sites in 25 locations within the 10-county CWD Management Zone, and the following counties had deer test positive for CWD:
• Carroll – eight deer
• Marion – two deer
• Newton – 14 deer
• Pope – two deer
• Searcy – one deer
• Yell – one deer

I think the best we can hope for is to learn how the hunters in states like Colorado have managed the disease. Or, start smoking pot where it don't matter. DP

I guess those border deer didn't read the no transport laws.

It was just a matter of time and will be for all states. The deer, Elk, Moose, etc. can intermingle around the states borders and spread the disease. No way to stop that.

My guess is that it came in with the elk that they brought into the state. Then it just took a while spread and show up.

Once here the scavengers like Buzzards can eat carcasses and then fly off spreading prions across the country side . I asked the AGFC if that was possiable and they side stepped the question , we told you what caused it they said . I talked to a unnamed AGFC employee face to face . He said we can't control nature . Guess he answered that question . :rolleyes:

Out of curriousity what did the AGFC employee tell you what caused it? I wasn't aware there was an answer to that question. And yes they could be spread if a vulture ate an infected deer and flew off some where and pooped (technical term). It can be spread a ton of different ways in the state, including someone killing a deer that is infected and driving home to another county or part of the state and processing the deer and disposing of the carcus there. I wonder how many times this has happened over the last 20+ years. Apparently the prions that are left in the carcus stay in the soil as it decomposes. Then it is there and can be transfered to that areas deer.

I worked (32 hours) the check station in Atkins on opening weekend and we checked about 40 deer the whole weekend. One of the biologists went down the road where the processor is and there was literally a mountain of deer that were being skinned (200+). This processor was just a couple miles down the road from us. It seems to me that most hunters aren't too concerned about it. If they were, I would think that more would have brought their deer in to be checked.

They kept saying it was spread by Deer carcasses mainly the brain , spinal tissue and Lympt glands . Suspect saliva or other bodily fluids . I also thought it was odd not many getting their Deer tested .I took in a 3.5 year old buck opening morning . It came back negative .

Ok. I thought you were saying they told you how it got into the state.

I wish more would have been like you and willing to get their deer tested. Thanks!
