Report: Chickamauga Lake crappie 11/21/2016
I fished with Raymond Reed today for the first time. It was a short trip as he had just worked off early this AM. I launched around 11:00 AM and picked him up at Chester Frost Park and it was about 11:30 or so before we actually got to fishing. We stopped at 2:30, so it was a short 3 hour trip. Wish it could have been longer.
NNE wind and chilly temps greeted us along with Blue Bird skies. No clouds at all. This usually means a tough day and it was sort of tough. We found fish alright, but they had lockjaw mostly. We did catch 3 very nice crappie and 1 white bass and 1 yellow bass before I took Raymond back to the ramp at CFP. On the way there, I took him to a place and showed him a good spot, but the fish had not been there for quite some time. But, we did see a few on brush and stumps. We didn't fish though as I'm sure Raymond was getting tired.
But, I figured to hit that spot on the way back and fish for about 15 minutes. The fish made me stay until almost 4 o'clock when I finally had a limit of crappie. I felt badly because I got into those fish right away after we had cast our arms off with very little success the 3 hours that we fished together. These were quality fish. The best that I have caught in some time. I'm sorry, Raymond. I will do better next time.
The hot lure for us today was a Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" Shad in the Florescence Glow color fish on a 1/6" oz jig head. After I got on the fish at a later time, I nearly had a limit with that color and then decided to try a BG Slab Slayer on a 1/24 oz jig head and it was game on then. In addition to coming home with a limit of crappie and 1 yellow bass, I had a fish break my line on my last cast and I decided to not tie on another one. My wife was waiting for me at the ramp with the trailer. I had to run. Grin.
Water temp ranged from 63 degrees to 60.6 in Waconda Bay just before I put the boat on trailer. I need to be Striper fishing. We caught fish on vertical structure blow downs and off shore brush.
