What are ya'lls suggestions for shooting docks? I don't have a lot of experience with this, but may give it a shot this weekend. I've seen guys skip cast from 15-20 yds out, I've seen guys bow and arrow cast closer to the docks and I've seen guys with those little dock devil rods. Never seen anybody really jig close to the docks with a 12 foot rod though?
Any help or advice?
My buddies and I use Ozark Dock Shooter rods in the 6ft length as well as the BnM Sharp Shooter in 6ft lengths.
We use the Crappie Pro Dock Shooter jigheads with the double collar in 1/24 & 1/32 oz weights and small (1.5in)
plastic bodies. Check out the numerous videos on "YouTube". Just type in the search box "dock shooting crappies"
You'll get a good number of returns. Oh and after you watch those videos, practice, practice, practice!!!!

There all kinds of technics. What ever works for you. I use 5'6 lighting rod with a zebco delta reel and 6lb line. Also use 6ft spinning reel for lighter jigs.

Lots of techniques for sure. I like 4 lb line for this and go as light as you can on the jig to keep it in the zone.
Not advice on what to use but just a thought to keep in mind. Always fish in front or around the docks or before you rush in and start shooting a jig. A lot of fish are overlooked by not trying outside the docks first.
Max, Lots of good info and advice above. Best advice I can give you is pick out the rod you want to use and practice your technique (load/aim/release point) at home first. My son and I sacrificed a few jigs cutting off the point of the hook and made a game of trying to target a bucket in the driveway. I believe you have side imaging on your boat.That can help locate fish. Good luck and have fun!
if you have a garage door open it up about 3 feet and start there, then move the door down as you get better. dock shooting is addictive so watch out ! lol
