New to the area but have fished in the Orlando area for a while. I'm looking for some small lakes that i can take my canoe and catch a few slabs. Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't know any particular lakes over there, but I'm sure there are specks in most of them.
Here's the boat ramp finder: https://public.myfwc.com/LE/boatramp...c/default.aspx
The Winter Haven Chain of Lakes sure does have some specks in them, but they've always looked a bit "off" to me relative to the specks coloring and size of other nearby lucrative lakes (Kissimmee, Arbuckle, Clermont, Teneroc, etc.). I'm sure a canoe would fair just fine on some, I know I would kayak them with confidence. Lake Rochelle has a public ramp on 92 right there in Lake Alfred, also recommend talking to Ron at Ron's tackle shop in Lake Alfred, he is extremely well versed in the local chain and supplies some good minnows and intel. I believe Lake Smart and Lake Conine both have easy launch access off of Lucerne Park Road. Just proceed with caution reference your vehicle since most of the access points are not in great areas.
BTW, welcome aboard!!
Just remembered Lake Echo (never been) I've been told about and is very nicely sized for a canoe.
All good advice Mark.
Rochelle - was lake i caught most of my specks in - not very far from launch site on 92 - on right side, work the
cat tails
Lake Hamilton is excellent lake to fish for specks - not heavy pressured - shallow ramp off highway 27
