Reelfoot - G3 Sportsman Show

SO, I see the recent report is out that the stumps are plenty visible on Reelfoot. I watched a G3 Sportsman show that showed one of the Blue Bank guides with the host of the show pitching double rigs (1 jig, 1 minnow) at stumps and catching many crappie. It appeared to be this time of the year (cool morning / warm afternoons) with the allusions to the fall. Once the oncoming front hits sometime midweek and we get into real fall weather, is this a technique that some of you diehards have found to work? The folks on the show kept making the "just pick a stump" statement that made it look simple. Let me hear from you.

I saw a similar video of a guy fishing reelfoot in a stump field, looked to be in the lower blue basin. He was saying that the water was low and you usually couldn't see them. He was just jigging the stumps and catching some nice ones. With the TN river being so low I have been thinking about trying Reelfoot out because it is so low.

Thanks for responding. I got no confirmation from the thread so like you, I am going to give it a few weeks to settle after this big front comes through then rig up and give it a try.

Those videos are usually edited to make it look a lot easier then it actually is but I did catch a lot of crappie the last time the water was low, don't know about catching one on every stump but you can catch a limit pretty quick. Also no need to harm any minnows just tick a jig down find out what depth they are holding and you should do ok, I sometimes use a nibblet to help entice the bite. Just go very slow going out some of the car hood stumps will be just barely under the water and getting your boat up on one is no fun. Last report I got from a buddy of mine that lives on the lake was they were catching some good fish trolling minnows on double rigs in eight to ten feet of water fishing five to six feet down... Car Hood stumps..HAHAHAHA!!! 2 weeks after I bought my brand new Tracker, I took it to the foot(2012) and got hung in a stump for an hour. I was just barely moving and it slid all the way to the middle of the boat. Wasn't even done with the motor break in yet. Finally said the hell with it and cut the wheel to the left and hung it wide open. Bet I ground that stump down a foot but it came off.

Well I went to the foot today didn't set the woods on fire but caught a good mess of crappie. Caught three nice cats but released for another day, the stumps are showing in a few spots but many are about two or three inches under the water. Probly hit twenty or so with my boat while drifting with the very light wind, hit a few with my trolling motor and ticked a few with my big motor going out and coming in. Started out in five feet and didn't get a bite til I hit eight feet, caught all fish in 8 to 9 feet of water bout 5 to 6 feet down. water temp was 68 when I got there and 72 when I left, still needs to cool off some more the gar are still pretty active.

Man I wish had made it over this Saturday. I worked off of nights Friday and couldn't make myself get up. I had planned on going Sunday, but then I noticed Thursday night the weather guessers had changed the wind to 15 for Sunday and 7 for Saturday. I just wasn't able to move my schedule up a day.....It's killing me wanting to go. Maybe Thursday!?!
