On the bow i use my map and 2d sonar more than anything....but to me it is important to communicate between the two units for the waypoints that way i can locate and mark something on side and down image at the console, put a waypoint on it and find it on the bow with the 2d and waypoint....hope this helps

Thanks for the information. I was looking at the Lowrance Elite Ti but they can not be networked. I also was looking at the Garmin locators they can be networked however the striker doesn't have a lake map but can save way points and the echoMap has lake maps, do you think that if you had a map at the console but not at the bow but could save the way points between the two would be good or would you want a map at each location.
The elite 7 ti can be networked. Don't believe the 5 can though. I usually have mapping, 2d and di up.
I primarily use 2D and downvu up front but can quickly bring up the map. Mine are the Garmin 93SV at the console and the 73DV up front. The most important feature to me is that they can share waypoints. I think I can get a better idea of what's down there comparing the 2D and downvu. I've heard the Striker was pretty good but don't think I would like not being able to bring up the map.
I believe if you fish multiple lakes throughout the year maps would be a good tool. If you fish 2 or 3 lakes don't think it's that important as long as you can save waypoints. It all depends on what you want to spend. I know the only big difference in the Garmin Striker series and the SV's today are the lake maps and they are about double the cost. I rarely use traditional sonar today unless I'm running down the lake. Downview is just more detailed once you determine what your looking at.
you can network the elite 7 ti
