WARNING CONVENIENCE FEES!!!!

I registered my new boat today and paid sales tax. I put the total amount on my BPS Master Card so I could accrue some points but got a surprise on my receipt. Now I knew DOR charged an amount to use a card but I did not know that over $100 they charge you 2.15% of the total amount, so I ended up paying a $21.96 convenience fee. This is just a flat out rip off because I guarantee Master Card is not charging DOR that much. And to top it off the worker put a wrong last name and had to do the whole process over so I was there at least an hour. I do not care about the mistake or waiting but I don't feel my experience was convenient enough to be charged extra. BEWARE OF THESE RIP OFF FEES!!!!!

A credit card is a CONVENIENCE for the state. They get their money immediately, no waiting for a check to clear. There should be no charge for using a credit card.
See how long it takes for the state to refund any money they owe you.

the credit card companies charge the vendor a fee, they transfer it to you, they may over charge, it ain't right. but we adjust,adapt,overcome,and move on.

Yep, back when I accepted credit cards for my business. Visa and Mastercard both charged me 3% of the total as a service fee. When you are running a small profit line, the service charge will wipe it out. I had to charge a 3% fee for credit card charges to cover their fee.

I have ask for a discount for paying cash before. Some small businesses will give it to you.

Well one way or another it's a rip off....I'm sure credit card companies are making plenty without passing the buck to responsible card holders so charging 3% per transaction ain't right. I just want others to not be surprised when paying DOR sales tax.

The place we stayed in Canada only took cash or check. That way no fees for them to pay or pass on. It just seemed strange to have a place take only cash or check. Especially since we used credit card for almost everything going up and coming back. Can't get a FULL tank of gas while traveling without using credit card. It is prepay or credit card. Husband hates credit cards but got use to using them. Just made sure I kept receipts and compared to bill when it came in.

Credit card in Canada also takes care of the exchange rate instead of whatever the business charges.
