Chickamauga Lake report: 9/06/2016
I took a new friend, Mr.s on Crappie.com, who goes by the name of Lebron out for a fishing mini seminar this AM. We hit various structures and locations early before we finally found a school of fish that were willing to bite.We caught crappie, bluegills, and yellow bass along brush that is adjacent to the old river channel, and another productive spot was an elevated roadbed back in one of the bays.
Panfish Assassins, BG shads, and Strike king lures were presented to the fish. They liked a clear bait this AM, S&P Phantoms, Crystal shads, and Monkey Milk along with Blue Ghost and Blue Thunder by Panfish Assassins.
Very little wind and the solunar tables had a late morning period and the fish that were most active started just before the time that the tables said would be active.
We landed about 10 keeper crappie with a couple just a hair shy of 12" long. About that many shorts if not more and the thing that I noticed was how fat these fish are getting. 2 bluegills, and 2 yellow bass completed our catch today.
Lebron had been out of fishing for about 20 years and wanted a refresher course and that is what we tried to give him. He hasn't forgotten how to present lures and detect bites. I didn't have to do much coaching. Grin.
Water temp was 84.7 when we quit around 11:00 and there was a pretty good flow rate going on. Fish were 15 feet or more. Several were caught right after the jig hit bottom and we jumped it off the bottom. Thanks for going with me today, Lebron. We will try to make it out again before long.
