Where did the term jig up not down come from?
never heard that B 4.....
It was probably more of a suggestion than anything else.. Salt water Jigs are big to reach bottom, Including current from Tides. They reel up so many turns, and stop, reel more until the strike zone is found, So they do fish up in deep water
40 years ago the old timers would scold you if you did not start at the bottom and jig up. I was just wondering what was the theory behind this
Thats the way we fished when I went with a guide crappie fishing on Dale Hollow in TN....it was a good method. It is a deep lake and clear water.
Never heard it either, but what FOL said makes sense, as far as finding how deep they are. Interesting question.
If I jig up, I always get hungup.
So, I jig down.
When we first started fishing Toledo Bend in the early 70's, we dropped our weight to the bottom came up two cranks and waited. Didn't know there was any other way to fish for crappie for years.
