Man! O for 100
I tied up some jigs the other day and so far am o for about 100. I tied simple buck tail jigs on a 1/16th colored heads in white, chartreuse, pink and a few color combos and zero bites. I thought for sure I'd get something on the white with flashabou but nothing. It's been really hot here and the water temp is about 80 degrees. I tried a slow retrieval and a slow/twitch type method. I was in about 13fow along docks and weed lines. I finally gave up and went back to plastic grubs and ended up landing 3 or 4 great sized red ears. Any ideas?

Don't give up on them just yet. Sometimes they will out fish plastic sometimes they won't.

Fish them plastics in that hot water. When them water temps get into the 70's and below break out the buck tails and wear em out. Don't understand it but I have always had better luck on hair jigs in cooler water. Not so much in warm water.

Try some Marabou or Hackle as they will have more action and maybe a little deeper? I don't know the Northern waters like I do down here, but in summer here you need water depth of 25' at least. Now you may only be fishing down 12' to 18', but water depth is much more. Other than that, like these guys say sometimes soft plastic will win over a hand tied jig, but I don't think that is a lot. For me personally I tie on a hair jig when the water temps are around 50 degrees and once over that in spring I have a hard time not using marabou! For some reason I do go mostly to hackle after spring is over, but feel both will work in both!
