Can't get a bite on lake wylie

So I am not doing good at the freshwater fishing. I just want to anchor and let the kids catch a few crappie, perch, or catfish. Heck, even a minnow would be better than nothing. I have tried worms, jigs, gulp catfish baits, and chicken liver with no luck. I am not looking for anyone's honey holes but can anyone tell me a spot the kids can catch a fish???? I kill it in saltwater but fresh water just isn't working for me. I am in SC on Wylie and not NC. Tried a few fish attractors on the map by the dam with no luck. The fish attractors seem to be marking a 40 foot spot with no humps or anything.

Welcome aboard. I'm sure some of the guys that fish Wylie will reply and help you with the lake.

If you have a decent depth finder, look for bait, find the bait and you'll find some fish, at least some perch or cats, they were in the 20 foot range thursday. try about half way back in the creeks. minnows about 14 to 18 feet deep, you'll should catch something. I found perch about 15 feet deep in 20 foot of water thursday.

Like CBNC said....you gonna need to do some looking back in the creeks hunting for the bait balls on your graph. This is done by idling around in likely spots while watching your sonar. All summer long I've been able to stay on fish concentrating on the 15'-20' flats as the baitfish are still holding to those areas. Some days the bite is near the top and others it's near the bottom. Some days the bite is ON and some days it's not nearly as good. During hot weather you just have to be satisfied with what you get I guess. Maybe the weather and water will start cooling off before too long. Good luck to ya.:)

Big Allison Creek is one of the consistent producers so you might want to focus on it first. Try the area in front of the Nuclear plant bridge. Good luck and I hope you find a few.

If you have a trolling motor check out the middle to back of Crowders Creek. Perch city. May find a few crappie hidin in there also. They were in there a week ago bigtime. Put your rods down bout 10 ft. to start with and ease along . Keep an eye on your finder for the schools like on CBNC pics show. Use about a 1/2 to 1 oz weight to keep your lines straight down. Troll about .3 up to .8 is about best for them. Good Luck
