Night Fishing with green light

Okay, I've fishing at night for bass on Ky and Barkley. I'm still a newby at Crappie fishing. I bought a green LED submersible light thinking that it might help attract some baitfish. My question is where should I try to fish with this? On a ledge or back in a bay or over a deeper brush pile? I know of some good ledges for Bass on the main part of the lakes, will crappie be around there too?
Also how much movement is okay? If I'm trying to stay on a spot, even with a anchor, I'll drift around some on the main lake.

Generally I'm looking for tips on fishing with a light from a boat since it along with crappie fishing is new to me.

I try to find deep drops with some structure like brush or stakes. Night fishing is very quirky. You need decent current. I try to anchor with one rope up current a good ways then another off the transom close by to keep the boat from swinging around.

If you can find a bridge where you can tie up close to pilings, you will remove a lot of the anchor hassle. Just remember to be patient. You should quickly get a huge baitball under the lights but most times it takes time for the crappie/whites to get active.

Be sure to have and leave your running lights showing. KY and Barkley attract lake lice at night just like in daylight. I've had boats and jet skis come by me after midnight like it was noon and they were headed to a fire. Some without a hint of running lights.

Hello ctf58 I like to used two green lights one at each end. Put them couple feet down. If you don't have some big bait fish coming in after a while moved and set up again.

I have always had the best luck on channel ledges or drop-offs that come close to a point or the bank. I don't ever really worry about brush or structure as a matter of fact I avoid it if I can due to hangups. Thermocline is the key in the summer I usually catch fish 1o feet or less deep. Getting anchored well is important as strikes can be very light. You may not get bit until 12 or 1 in the morning I you have shad up just be patient

Appreciate the extra information on this as usual. I had tried this a few weeks back w/o much success but I had tried a place with lots of structure and such but not much current if any at all. Your insight is once again much appreciated.

Okay guys heading out to try to green lights out tonight with the father-in-law. I have a spot in mind. A long hump about 8 feet deep, creek channel coming out of a bay in one side about 15' on one side and a whole about 20' deep on the other. Hump ends with a rock pile and the the main lake channel. Been a great bass spot in the past. Plan on using slip bobbers and minnows. I have 2 anchors. How many minnows should I get? 4 dozed enough for 2 guys?

Any last minute pointers??
