I am looking for recommendations from the members regarding the rods they might
be using or suggesting for trolling crank baits with planer boards. I'd like to purchase a
couple of longer rods, 12 & 14 ft, for this purpose. I am currently using my walleye
trolling rods, 7 & 8'6" with Daiwa 17 line counters for this purpose. Would appreciate
any suggestions or comments! Thanx in advance for your help!

More than likely, you are not going to want longer rods for pulling boards. In my opinion, the longer rods are only going to get you higher at the boat to clear other gear. The issue would be not having enough backbone to pull the boards effectivly. I run 7.5 and 8.5 rods and as many as 10 at a time. For salmon, we run heavier 8.5 and 9.5 and 10's.
The best rods i have found are the gander mountain angler series with trigger. Non telescopic in 7.5 and 8.5. I use these tournament fishing. Ensure they say Planer board on the rod.

for trolling boards, wire, lead core and copper. We just started fishing for crappie about 2 years ago, and
wanted to try trolling cranks on boards. Don't know if you'd be interested, but Tommy Skarlis has a webinar
on YouTube regarding planer board trolling Crankbaits. Interesting watching. Well, thanx again!

yup, I use "walleye" rods for trolling/planerboards, sssh don't tell the crappie.
OK guys, thank you all for chiming in. I thought I may be able to get away with
using just one set of rods for cranks, but I guess I'll have to carry a couple of extra
rods for long line trolling. Not a real problem, plenty of room in the rod lockers.
