The Striper die off due to poor oxygenated water has started earlier than usual this year. The south end of the lake has beautiful stripers belly up. If you like to catfish you should head there as they are feeding on the stripers and the alewife. As a hybrid/striper fisherman it hurts seeing all those that I released all fall and winter dying. The only good thing is I did not see a single dead hybrid.
It's a shame.
The big kill in 2010 was on 7/28. That is the year that 6,000 died.. Unfortunately LKN will never be a great Striper or Hybrid lake with the NC wildlife stocking numbers.... NC could really learn something from SC!!!!
And everyone always wants to question and complain with why I keep a good many stripers out of LKN.......shame.

The hybrid fishery with never be great on Norman when they only stock 160,000 fingerlings in a lake this size. I see nothing wrong with keeping some stripers to eat. I fish enough that I release most of my fish. When others fish with me they are welcome to keep a legal amount as long as I do not have to clean them :crazy:
