I don't find Santee to be a great trolling lake in the fall, but if I were planning a trip, October would be the month. Like most southern lakes in October, air and water temps are moderate, winds are light. Santee is a large, mostly open lake. It's forage base is massive. With so much water to cover, so much bait visible it is difficult to find any large concentrations of crappie to target.
How's the brush/jigging bite in early to mid September ink?

One of my favorite times of the year to fish. The crappie are fat and sassy. Meaning they are eating aggressively, storing up for the winter months. They are beginning to move shallower, meaning brush along the migration routes will be magnets. Other than early spring, the overall size of the fish will be consistently good, with two pound fish caught fairly frequently.
Thanks for the info Inkdabber.
