JPP report July 23rd
Jacob and I got up this morning about 4:30 and went to the lake. We trolled crank baits and long lined jigs for crappie with the fish about 10 feet down in 12 to 18 fow. The crappie seemed to like the jigs today, with monkey milk being the color of choice. Jacob did well on an Arkie crappie crank in wild thing color. I caught a couple of nice crappie on a hot n tot fire tiger crank bait. We had the jigs on 10 foot crappie rods with planer boards to get them away from the crank bait lines. Going through one turn near an island I saw my 10 foot crappie rod bend just about double and thought I must have gotten hung up on the bottom. I looked back and saw the planer board zig zag a couple of times and knew I probably had a hybrid bass on. That was fun! I lightened up the drag and Jacob manned the net. It was a 19 inch hybrid. Jacob later caught a crappie and before he could get it in the live well he had another hit on a different rod on his side of the boat! It was a great morning with cloud cover until 10 AM. We ended up keeping 10 nice crappie, the hybrid, a white bass, a yellow bass, and a channel catfish.
